Benitez: Napoli could have drawn level but Juventus were better

Napoli coach Rafa Benitez believes his side didn’t make the most of their chances as they fell to a heavy 3-0 defeat to Juventus on Sunday night.

The Azzurri coach was pleased by his side’s reaction after conceding within the first minute, but admits they were done in by two quality goals by the Bianconeri.

“We conceded a goal after only a minute which is never easy, but we showed our quality until the 74th minute,” he told Sky Sport after the match.

“They scored two quality goals and and their quality was clear. It is not a consolation because we lost. Everyone knows they are a strong team and maybe even some smart people know that to [in reference to Conte{.

“Better in the second half? Yes, we had to have more possession and we were more dangerous. We showed the quality and character that we have.

“[Andrea] Pirlo was not man marked? Especially on the free kick. In the second half when we had the ball we could have caused some damage. We don’t have to follow him all the time, we don’t play a match looking to limit one player.

“Press conference before the match? I only spoke about Juve’s strength, all of Napoli’s fans feel the same way. We are growing, as a squad and as a club, but Juventus have been winning for awhile. Saying we aren’t favourites is obvious.”
